Hey FabricMamas and Papas! 👋
Let’s talk about something that fills our hearts with joy—and maybe our dining tables with pins and threads: making your own children’s clothes. 💚
If you’ve ever thought about sewing for your little ones, or already spend your weekends wrangling fabric while someone small crawls off with your measuring tape, you’re not just crafting—you’re doing something seriously powerful.
Yep, home-sewn kidswear isn’t just adorable and creative. It’s a game-changing step toward sustainable living 🌍.
✨ Why Handmade = Sustainable
Sewing your own kids' clothes means:
🧵 Less Waste – You're choosing your fabrics wisely, often using every last scrap, and steering clear of fast fashion waste.
📏 Custom Fit – You can design clothes that grow with your child (hello, adjustable waistbands and roll-up cuffs!).
👚 Better Fabrics – You’re in control—using natural, printed materials that are safe for sensitive skin and the planet.
🌈 One-of-a-Kind Style – Your child gets to rock something truly unique. And let’s be honest, what’s cooler than a handmade dungaree with dinosaur pockets?
🧒 Clothes That Last? Yes, Please!
Kids grow fast. (Too fast. Seriously—where did that time go?) But that doesn’t mean you have to keep stitching new outfits every month. Here's how to sew smart:
1. Elasticated Waistbands & Drawstrings
Perfect for trousers, skirts, and dresses. They stretch as your child grows, and you can adjust them easily.
2. Roll-Up Sleeves and Cuffs
Start long, roll or fold up, and unroll as those little arms and legs get longer. Bonus: it looks super stylish!
3. Grow-With-Me Patterns
There are some fabulous patterns out there designed to fit multiple sizes (think 6 months to 3 years!). Look for overalls, rompers, and harem pants with adjustable straps and plenty of wiggle room.
4. Layer-Friendly Pieces
Make pinafores, tunics, and vests that can be layered in cooler months or worn alone in summer.
5. Multi-seasonal prints
Choosing seasonally diverse fabric designs ensures that your little ones will be fashion funky - well dressed every month of the year.
(It also avoids the inevitable arguements about wearing Christmas clothing in July!?)
6. Stay Gender neutral
If you're sewing for your precious first born child then it's often tempting to go all out once you know their gender - but just wait a moment.
If you're planning on having more little ones in the future then it's much more eco and purse friendly to choose prints that will work for any gender.
Our fabric has fantastic colour retention and washes like a dream so you'll be able to pass down all those favourite items of clothing!
❤️ Handmade for a Better Tomorrow
When you sew for your child, you’re not just making clothes. You're building memories, nurturing creativity, and shaping a future where fashion is more thoughtful and less wasteful.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. A wonky seam here or a slightly lopsided pocket there? That’s love, not a flaw. 🥰
So grab your fabric scissors, fire up that machine, and get stitching! Your planet—and your kid’s wardrobe—will thank you.
Peace, love and rainbows

Would you ever consider selling some patterns that you recommend? I find it daunting to try and find a pattern that is well made and would love the convenience of being able to add a pattern (pdf or paper) to my order.
Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. And your fabrics are excellent quality, they last wash after wash, child after child. My youngest is wearing makes I made fabric which my eldest has finally grown out of.
